a co-worker is about to get an ass implant soon. no, she’s not a stripper. everyone has tried to talk her out of doing it but for some reason, she thinks this will improve her life somehow. she is also a semi-hypochondriac so I tried to warn her about the dangers of anesthesia and being knocked out. somehow, even though she runs to her doctor every time she has a pimple thinking it’s skin cancer, she is not worried about dying from her butt-enhancement.
another co-worker of mine who was making great money was caught conspiring with another worker to steal money from the business. the co-conspirator confessed to the crime and basically snitched him out. needless to say, they were both fired. there are people who would sell their mothers to have his job but somehow he decided that stealing to get even more money was worth the risk of getting caught.
there are some things in life, like vanity and greed, that seem make people not be able to judge risk versus reward properly.
in recent years, there have been CEOs that were making tens of millions of dollars in salary and stock options that stole money from their company and ending up in prison. somehow, tens of millions of dollars weren’t enough for these people. they decided they wanted more and were willing to risk their freedom to get it.
there have been amatuer hit-men who were paid a paltry $500 to murder somebody and sentenced to death. $500? really?
as a poker player, i’m always balancing risk versus reward, and not just at the poker table.
